As a Supporting Artiste, What does NASAA mean to you?
If your agency is not a member of NASAA ask them why?
Most of the Supporting Artistes Agencies operating in the UK do so lawfully and within the strict guidelines of the Employment Agencies Act of 1973, always putting the welfare of their artistes uppermost in any decisions they make. Unfortunately most is not all and a minority of rogue agents have been tainting the industry as a whole.
A number of established agencies got together to discuss how best to deal with these undesirable agencies “in-house” and came up with an Association that agencies who could meet certain criteria which goes above and beyond that as set by the DTI could apply to join.
The agencies who belong to NASAA will always adhere to our code of conduct but basically they will set out in writing any terms and conditions (including all charges) that both you and they are expected to comply with so that there can be no misunderstanding by either party.
All of the agencies within NASAA will work to obtain Union agreed rates or above, for all work carried out by you through them, however they will not stop you from accepting other work at lower rates should you find this work yourself. Your NASAA agent would simply not act on your behalf on such engagements.
NASAA agencies are simply trying to provide you with a fair days pay for a fair days work by not doing deals that undervalue your contribution to making the productions real.
NASAA registered agencies are recognized by the major production companies as being highly reputable & professional and also have the full backing of Equity, BECTU and the DTI.
If your current agency is not a member of NASAA ask them why?
If they follow the guidelines, which are there to protect you, and meet our code of conduct, we welcome them to join us. The more reputable agencies that do belong to NASAA the more powerful NASAA becomes in protecting your interests.
