National Association of Supporting Artistes Agents (NASAA)

Background

Following the publication of the draft Conduct of Employment Agencies and Employment Business Regulations in late 2003, BECTU, Equity, G2, Casting Collective, and Ray Knight Casting met, together with representatives of the Department for Trade & Industry and the Department of Culture, Media & Sport, to discuss the creation of a self-regulatory Code of Practice for agents representing walk-on and supporting artistes.

It was agreed that the operational nature of these agents’ work differs from that of others in the industry, and the artistes they represent are more susceptible to problems in their dealing with unprofessional agents. The meeting decided, therefore, that a Code of Practice was needed for those agents who wanted to provide a higher level of service for their artistes.

As a result of those discussions, it was decided to produce a Code of Conduct and a self-regulatory scheme for the National Association of Supporting Artistes Agents (NASAA)
